The cemetery holds 12 thousand executed Polish Army Soldiers, policemen, jailors and firefighters buried here since 1937. About 6,3 thousand of which are Poles. The victims were held in the camp in Ostashkov. Since 5th April the executions were performed with a shot in the back of the head. The fallen corpses were being immediately transported away with trucks and thrown massively into mounds few kilometers away from the city. The Polish Military Graveyard in Mednoye was opened on 2 September 2000 and is also avaiable for tourists. The deceased had been identified so that each of them has a tablet showing name, date of birth and workplace.
